Yin Yinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01953820738353999767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2588494510153467224.post-88374359896860287972023-07-15T23:28:00.000+08:002023-07-15T23:28:08.907+08:00Book Review: I'm Glad My Mom Die | Hey, this is a memoir title.

Should I ignore everything | Read reviewThere is a bestseller title with The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. And interestingly, Alex Wills published a counter with title "Give a F*ck Actually” to share how could you reclaim yourself without hiding yourself.

It’s interesting paper debate between authors, at least this is the first time I’ve seen such kind of “collabs”. LOL.

Let’s skip the part of the first book because the review is already written here. If we focus onto this topic now, there are some few more interesting perspectives that we can extend here.

Why Should You Give a F*ck?

1. To admit the issue and do the necessary
Ignoring the facts doesn’t make yourself better, worst case it might mentally burden yourself. It looks like you’re “ignoring” the issue, but actually it made you stress even you didn’t admit. So at some situation, you would have to face the issue, and make a decision, so that you can move forward.
2. To express yourself
If you are telling yourself “it’s okie, I prefer not to argue”, then you are actually ignoring yourself. Most of us simply take it and being afraid of express and rejects, ironically, the relationship won’t get better even you are always being an “okie” person, things get worst because you are always increasing your thresholds until… no one will respect your preferences anymore. So be active to yourself, your preferences. You are always allow to express yourself and decide your own directions.
3. To improve yourself
When you started to stay alert, you will also started to self reflects to get better version of yourself or lifestyle. You started to seek for a solution whenever you noticed an issue instead of ignoring it. And slowly you will be growing to actively improving in different perspective or environment.

Look at the little lever, look at the lights effects. Aww... so adorable.

The Sound Quality

This fella is a speaker. Yea. Seriously I’m not sure if Divoom’s focus point is speaker or the pixel art, because both of them are so good. The sound quality is good enough for my daily use, watching drama or listen to podcast. P/s: music is not my daily thing, but for me the music playing sounds good too!

The Pixel Art

If you look at Divoom's product line, their focus is on Pixel Art. Ditoo-pro support up to 16x16 pixel art drawing and display. By using their apps, you can draw the art yourself, or get from their community. Of course you can publish your designs to the community to gain some fans.

There’s a Planner features in Ditoo, which allows you to setup your daily routine and the Ditoo will display accordingly when the time hit. Eg a Coffee art during 3-4PM, my settings. It’s a kind of ceremony you know, to add a little fun to the dull hours. This is the features I like the most.

And tell you what, I’m having digital pet on my desk, the swimming fish. AHAHA.

The Connections

Ditoo can be connected via bluetooth and coming with 2 types of bluetooth connection, make sure you connect to the correct one to play the music.
1. Ditoo-Light: this will allow you to setting the device, upload your pixel art, setup the alarm and planner or voice command etc features that available in the apps.
2. Ditoo-Audio: for audio output, for speaker purpose.
So the game is you may connect your phone to control the device, but connect to your PC for the music playing.

The Battery Life & Charging Method

Consider Ditoo as a display or a speaker, I perhaps it is not for 24 hours use. The battery life actually significantly impacting the user experience:
1. The battery life is extremely low. It can last only 12 -14 hours, it die so fast that you have to take care the device instead of get it to entertain yourself. The options are either turn it on only when necessary or plug in the cable all the time to keep it alive.
2. The charging port is a type-C. I’m so happy to see it come with type-C port, BUT! It can’t be simply charge via your smartphone charger due to the voltage differences. It works only if you have a 5V charger or else you will have to charge it using the in-box cable. This made me an additional charging cable on my desk, I thought it can share with the iPad’s cable 😟
3. So the battery life is so short that it encourage you to on/off it everyday, BUT ironically, the on/off button is BEHIND the device with a lid covered! Damn. Sometimes I do think that the product designer never use these product themselves. If the on/off is so important it might as well place as one of the key on the keyboard area or if there is a schedule to turn off the device easily.

So here’s the thing, when the battery life is so short that required you to on/off everyday, and it’s so troublesome in reaching the on/off button, you would started to question the purpose of turn it on. LOL.

Conclusions

A very cute and vibes-building gadget. Although it having battery lasting issue, but it do provides quality vibes that helps you to enjoy certain hours or tasks. Also with the mini art display, it provides digital fun like.. get a on screen pet. like me. 😆

This topic is kind of personal because everyone have their communication preference. The moment you are seeking for advices in these area, I guess you appears that you might be not confident with the way you talk, you always has the moment that regret what had spoken, struggle to explain yourself better, worrying if the listener misunderstood what you trying to convey.

To be honest, the moment you revisit & blame yourself "I should have talk better", you are actually improving your talking skills, bit by bit.

I’ve stumble onto this topic due to a recent read written by author William Howard - How to Talk Effectively: A Practical Guide to Speak Your Mind Clearly and Influence People Indirectly

So I thought I might be able to extend this topic through my personal experiences.

Why do we need to talk?

Understand each other
To share the real personality of yours. To firm up the bonding in between 2 or a group of people. Perhaps you have a better chat when talk about overseas vacation, or maybe for reading, or maybe gaming. We talk to understand and find out the bonding in between.

To avoid conflicts…
We used to judge people through face expressions plus motion. This is why a statement exist “first impression is important”. Most of the time the first impression broke after you’ve more talk and successfully understand each other.

To exchange valid information
Especially for working environment. Sharing a proper and not confusing words is important.

How to have an effective conversation?

No interruption
Sometimes we might cutoff someone who is talking, this is extremely bad habit unless the conversation is a gossip channel. When someone is sharing and you found a misleading/incorrect statement, noted down and clarify only after the person finish talking.
Interviewer Manager: "It seems you've no experience in working with other teams other than your own team. But in our company culture, you will need to work with different people from different department, also from different stakeholder. etc etc"
Wait for her finish talking, and you can clarify your experience better. "Just now you've mentioned about my experience working with other departments, actually I always do, due to the PM roles in my current company, project came in might not fall to my own team but also required development from different teams to complete a project. "

Eye contacts
This is quite a personal preference. Like for me, whenever I have eye contact in a conversation, the talker usually get stress and asked if I got any questions. hmmmm. But if your eye contact doesn't made someone feeling uncomfortable, do it.

Reaction and feedback while listening
Continue from point 2, as since my eyes is not appear as "friendly", most of the time I might avoid eye contact, but I will continuously giving feedback like nod or simply a "yes". This way the talker know that I'm listening and they would appears continue talking confidently.

Applying your own emotion to a story
You are really welcome to apply your own emotion when someone is telling story, if there's a good news you can be happy and congrats to the story teller. If it’s a bad news, show your sympathy. I guess you won’t prefer to have zero reactions when you are sharing something to others too, right?

Control your ego
When we come into working environment, sometimes we received bad email from customers or colleagues who are cursing and scolding about malfunction system or miscalculation etc, you will be angry and wanted to defend for yourself. However, scolding back is always a lowest recommended option. At this moment, take a deep breath, instead of scolding back, try to understand and suggest further what can he/she try or info that necessary for you to help them better.
Boss "I need this urgently, can you arrange this project asap? Why is it so difficult to get this arrange?"
You "Unfortunately there’s no resources left for this request, we are occupied with few projects at the moment. Here is the list of existing projects and their schedules, I would suggest to have the Project Z have lower priorities so that we can push this new project as a high urgent Project instead"
Tips: Stay calm and focus on solution, not your ego to defend yourself.

Conclusion

We fall into conversation everyday to exchange bonding and information, not to hurt others. From a talking session, we can easily find out if the talker’s is a gossiper, a self-focus, a steady person. A long term relationship will be built when there’s communication exist.

Be a listener, provide sincere reactions, and be an effective talker.

Valuable quotes from the readings

How you communicate has an impact on how you represent yourself to the world.

Speaking up for yourself helps you to get more respect from the people in your life.

The more you fail to deliver on your word, the less likely you are to get trusted by others.

How you communicate to people has an impact on how much they respect you.

It’s so excited to have this gadget onboard for an Instax lovers. Being a Instaxer since 2013, from Mini 7s to Mini 90 then now an Instax Printer, this is a new toy that definitely will be looking for. Anyone having a similar Instax-path? Heh

Can’t deny Fujifilm got their product design super attractive - Mini 7s is chubby cutie pie, and Mini 90 is a retro elegant gentleman.

However the Mini Link 2 doesn’t have an attractive appearance, I really thought so during all the research and watching all the unbox videos. But… surprisingly I’m in love with this gadget the moment its physically held on my palm - IT’S SO CUTE. The printer is so small only a palm size! And the vertical stripe made it a good touch. This is seriously the first time getting an Instax product not for the sake of their appearance.

So...let’s share something useful that may help you decide whether to get one.

Why get an Instax printer instead of camera?

This is what I find out after 10 years of owning Instax products:

Bulky camera
I always struggle to bring along the camera out for gathering or holiday. It’s too clumsy even it’s adorable (extremely adorable). Most of the time it's used only during home gathering.

Everyone want it the moment you showoff your camera
HAHA. I’m sorry to mention but let’s be honest. Instax film is expensive, around S$1 per shot. The moment you expose your Instax camera, you must expect to take and give photos for almost everyone in the gathering. Do the imagination and the math. To be honest I will request one too because Instax film itself is interesting and meaningful to place on a desk or in a wallet.

Prefer a digital copy
Most of the time the photos taken via Instax camera are too nice to have 2nd shot via a phone. Which I do always wish that I can share photos to friends and family or social media.

Trial and error to get a success photo
Every Instaxer encountered fail photo shot, the results is unknown until the Fujifilm photo fully rendered. I’ve played for 1 hour to test Mini 90 double exposure feature with 6 failure shots. By using printer, you can choose the photo to print and even edit before printing.

Why choose Instax Printer instead of photo printer?

The reason is quite simple & obvious.

Do not have to get color ink cartridge. By using Instax, the film itself is technologically ready for any colors. You just need to get an official film instead of different colors for printing a photo.

The polaroid film design with white border is having unlimited potential, you can write on it, draw on it to decorate like a photo frame.

Printing quality

Personally I’m not a professional photographer, I use Instax to turn memorable moment into a decoration on my desk. Here is a little bit of discrepancies you needs to expect when photo printing via camera vs a digital printing via Instax printer:

The controlled and balance brightness
Fujifilm camera flash is strong and auto in few models, most of the time it made your face look much whiter and shining (and much pretty maybe?), the flash also might cause a light reflection if you are wearing specs, and the area that not reaching by the flash will appears darker which causing the photo looks dull and imbalance. However by using digital printing, the brightness can be edited as you prefer.

The missing details
The photo taking from camera itself is sharper, but the contour is slightly blur when it’s from printer, maybe because the digital copy is too high quality? Also it’s not recommended for photos that having a lot of details example a mountain scene or sky panorama, big no no no. It’s much more suitable for close photos like selfie, or 1-4 person close up photos.

Regret getting this Instax printer?

Since cameras might not fully utilized as shared above, this would be the best decision for Instaxer. Getting this Mini Link 2 is a best choice, I can now take photo with phone and print the preferred one to place on my working desk. Definitely no regret, best buy for 2023!
